America 250 - Ohio Goes to the Movies

For our May feature, we are offering a very special treat! On Saturday, May 2, at 10 am, we will show “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. Where’s the Ohio connection, you may wonder? The Costume Supervisor on both our feature and Avatar: The Way of the Water is Carrie (Bauer) Hollinger! A 1988 NB graduate, Carrie has worked on many productions, including “Bridesmaids”, “This is Us”, and “22 Jump Street”. Following the movie, around 1:15 pm, Carrie will describe what she does as a Costume Supervisor and give us a behind-the-scenes peek at creating the Avatar world. We are so excited to have a real connection to the glamorous world of motion pictures! Please join us at the Virginia Theater for the FREE event!

View and Chew

This month, for our FREE movie series, we will be showing “Ella McCay.” This movie stars Ella Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Albert Brooks

An idealistic young woman juggles her family and work life in a comedy about the people you love and how to survive them.”

The movie will be shown on Thursday, April 16th, with a start time of 6 pm at The Virginia Theater (119 N. Main St.). The theater doors will open at 5:30 pm. Concessions will be available for purchase. We look forward to seeing you there.

Find Your Joy During National Library Week

What brings you joy? Whether it’s a good book, learning something new, or connecting with others, you can find it at the North Baltimore Public Library.

National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, celebrates how libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programs, libraries help build strong communities.

Join us for the celebration! Whether you’re a regular visitor or haven’t stopped by in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all we offer—children’s programming, book clubs, monthly movies, and more.

No matter your stage in life, the North Baltimore Public Library is here to support, inspire, and connect you.

First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored each April by the American Library Association.

Book Chatters

The April meeting will be on Tuesday, April 28th, at 6:30 pm in the Wolfe Community Room. We will be discussing Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

set in the 1950s/60s, following Elizabeth Zott, a talented chemist forced out of research by a sexist scientific community. She reluctantly becomes the beloved star of a television cooking show, Supper at Six, using the platform to teach women science, self-worth, and to challenge the status quo.

Stop by the Book Chatter’s display to see a selection of book choices for the year

and pick up a copy of the list or visit the website to view/print your own list.
